VideoToAscii
A video turned into text that moves in the console
It turns a video into a character animation. Python splits the frames and converts them to ASCII, and a C# console plays them back.
What it is about
VideoToAscii is one of the projects in the technician program's organization. It joins three small pieces, two in Python and one in C#.
Python does the image work, splitting the frames and turning them into characters. The C# console only reads the text file and shows one frame after another.
What it does
- An OpenCV script that opens the video and saves each frame as an image.
- Two converters, with ascii_wizard and with ascii_magic, that turn each frame into 150-column text and separate frames with a break line.
- A C# console on .NET 6 that asks for the file and the milliseconds per frame, and plays it in a loop, clearing the screen.
- Seventeen converted animations in the repository, from 4 to 211 frames, among them Saturn, a donut and a rocket.
