FashionLine: Inventory on MongoDB
A store in three containers, the API with JWT, MongoDB and React
A fashion store's inventory, with a Spring Boot API with JWT on MongoDB, a React frontend and all three parts packaged as Docker images.
What it is about
The second exam of NoSQL Databases asked for a full application on MongoDB. FashionLine handles a clothing store's inventory, with products that have a description, price, stock, category and size.
The API is in Spring Boot with JWT security, the frontend in React and TypeScript, and each part has its Dockerfile and its deployment guide in the repository.
What it does
- A Spring Boot REST API with Spring Data MongoDB, documented with Swagger, with products searchable by name, size and category.
- Sign-in with Spring Security and JWT; the frontend stores the token, verifies it on load and sends it with every request.
- A React, TypeScript and Vite frontend with the product table and its create, edit and delete actions.
- Three Docker images published on Docker Hub, for the API, the MongoDB database with a script that loads initial data, and the frontend.
- In production, the database on MongoDB Atlas, the API on Render and the frontend on Netlify.
Decisions and their costs
A custom image for the local database
Getting data into the local environment would mean restoring backups.
Environment variables instead of fixed properties
The same API had to run against the local database and against Atlas.
